Sarah Nicholson
Family Engagement Officer
Family Engagement Officer
At YYD, we value positive relationships with our pupils and their families. Sarah works closely with families to enhance parental engagement, collaborating with the school and various external professionals. This includes our pupil support team, speech and language therapists, physiotherapists, occupational therapists, social services, and family support agencies.
We believe in nurturing the well-being, emotional, and social development of our pupils. Sarah organises workshops and training sessions to provide valuable support opportunities, either through direct training or by connecting families with services like Families Compass.
In addition, Sarah acts as a direct link between our active PTA and the school. This fosters professional relationships and creates productive partnerships that benefit our school community.
If you require any more information please contact Sarah via e-mail: snicholson@yyd.org.uk
At Ysgol y Deri (YYD), we recognise that there can be situations in which volunteers can make an appropriate and significant contribution to the work and services of our school.
The contribution of volunteers to the work of the school is especially valued and respected. YYD believes that by providing opportunities for volunteers to work alongside complex needs children, the volunteer will gain a range of skills and work experience. They will develop confidence and motivation to try different things and benefit the community they serve.

Funded by The Vale of Glamorgan Council, Barnardo’s provide an independent and confidential counselling service across high schools within the Vale of Glamorgan and within the Community. This service is available to children and young people aged 10-19 years who live or attend school within the Vale of Glamorgan.

You can find out more information about this service and submit on-line referrals via their website www.schoolbasedcounselling.co.uk
Children and young people are encouraged to complete self-referrals but parents/carers and professionals can also complete referrals on their behalf, with their consent.
