General Overview of Horizon

At Horizon we are committed to supporting young people to re-integrate into education. We support learners who have various mental health needs and, as a result, haven’t been able to access mainstream education.

We work with pupils, families and other professionals in order that our pupils can achieve the necessary qualifications and skills for them to move onto the next steps in their education.

We have a strong pupil centred focus with the aim of our learners becoming:

  • Ambitious, capable learners who are ready to learn throughout their lives.
  • Enterprising, creative contributors who are ready to play a full part in life and work.
  • Ethical, informed citizens who are ready to be citizens of Wales and the world.

At Horizon, we adopt a trauma informed approach to supporting young people and ensure a safe and nurturing environment in which our pupils can feel comfortable and thrive. Our team is made up of trauma informed practitioners who support pupils by showing playfulness, curiosity, acceptance and empathy.

Communication with parents is central to the provision we offer our pupils. We have the most success in Horizon when parents and staff work together. Staff teams have regular communication with parents via class Class DOJO, where you will receive updates via class stories and be able to message the staff team.

Staff at Horizon are also in regular contact with other professionals who support our young people to ensure a strong multi-disciplinary approach.

We understand that at times our pupils struggle to attend school. At these times, parents are expected to give school daily contact before 9:30AM each morning to report an absence
